At this junction walkers can turn left and walk 8.5km to Kuranda via Wrights Lookout, or descend 2km to Douglas Track Road in Rainforest Estate.The flagged descent to Douglas Track Road passes Red Bluff and crosses the railway line just north of the cliff-face. This means that for those wanting to just hike to the Glacier Rock lookout will have a couple of options.Based on the online trail maps of the Barron Gorge, the best place to start is from the Stoney Creek car park. The place to be for outdoor events in & around Cairns. This takes about 15 minutes.At the junction, the new Douglas Track continues straight ahead. This would probably add around 3 or 4 km to the total walk. Nice views. The gentle climb up to the 450M Glacier Rock lookout is a great bet for catching excellent sunrise or sunset views near Kuranda. This hiking trail is so attractive but I don’t have car so may I ask are there any public transportation can reach the starting point? Allow about 2-3 hours return including time at lookout. You need a fairly good level of fitness. The park is part of the traditional lands of the Djabugandji Bama (local Aboriginal people) who maintain a close spiritual connection with this country. Walkers can hike from Kuranda to Glacier Rock along this trail. Wear good shoes. There are other good outllook views as well, in places during the climb. Last part of track is steep but the view at the top is worth the effort.

Worth the trip up there. The spectacular view from Glacier Rock extends over Stoney Creek gorge to Mt Whitfield, Cairns and the coast. And if you just want to walk around the Cairns region….to a waterfall OR to a view then I have a whole heap of options HERE. Take the left, following the Douglas Track/Glacier rock sign back into the rainforest.
