The story of murder and the mystery behind it is also quite gripping. They are usually funny, have good plots and are enjoyable to read. But there are false tones throughout the book, there are diversions and, most importantly, the resolution, the denouement, is not satisfying or dare I say, believable at all. Since I thoroughly enjoyed #1 thru #7, I was interested to see what Crais would do differently in this novel as compared to the previous ones.
The police have no leads, and Joe asks investigator Elvis for help.
Overall, reading about Elvis Cole and Joe Pike is time well spent, and an example of writing that was a pleasure for the author.
Why Cole loves LA. This may be a bit discourteous but sometimes small things get in to print which I find difficult to believe that a great novelist would miss e.g. by Pocket Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. There are few writers who dig as deeply into the complexities of human emotion as Robert Crais does. There are many authors of detective thrillers who are great at dialogue and plot and character development and humor.
Excellent C and P Thriller but flawed by love interest. Love them, hate them or find them intolerable...the detective outfit they run is a dead, solid perfect description of the private investigation business as opposed to bureaucratic, ponderous police operations that are loaded with 'bad guy"s looking to move up the ladder and get out of the squad cars.
He purchased a secondhand paperback of Raymond Chandler’s The Little Sister when he was fifteen, which inspired his lifelong love of writing, Los Angeles, and the literature of crime fiction.
The other most notable change is Crais’s abundant use of similes and metaphors. Good characters, twists and ending.
That sounds harsh however I hope you will see I do like the book, it’s just not one of my best books, besides which it’s too blooming heavy!Book Review – Love in the Time of Cholera – This book should carry a trigger warningCan you imagine the fairies who sit on these overnight? Thoroughly enjoying this series have enjoyed each book always looking forward to the next but this is the best so far. When Karen Garcia goes missing her father calls on Pike, a former lover of Garcia, to find her. Without giving anything away a satisfying end but not a happy one in my opinion. Blimey, bit deep, sorry but it is a style which may not suit everyone.
Audience Reviews for Requiem: Season 1 Mar 09, 2019 The show is way too slow. Les personnages principaux sont intéressants, la trame est bonne , l'histoire bien menée et l'écriture souple : un bon polar pour l'été !
In LA Requiem, Crais’ 8th novel in his Elvis Cole series, he brings the reader into the POV of Elvis’s partner, Joe Pike, for the first time. If you haven't read anything previously by the author this is an excellent place to start.
The lead actress is as poor as her wig. The partnership between private detective Elvis Cole and his best friend, former L.A. cop, Force Recon Marine, and all around bad-ass strong, silent type, Joe Pike, forms the epicenter of these novels. This was certainly not like any of the other Robert Crais books that I've read (this isy 8tj so far) For some reason this almost seemed like it was written by somebody else. In this novel, Crais employs writing in multiple POVs (both first and third), whereas the previous seven were solely first person point of view. The Forgotten Man (Cole & Pike) He was not a good fit.
