That's cool; I'm on board.I expected a lot more from this. The Expert does feature some well staged action sequences but the reason why I didn't care for this flick was that it clearly didn't know what it wants to be. Jeff Speakman is a spec ops trainer whose sister is killed by a serial killer who gets a stay of execution so Speakman breaks into the prison to get justice.That set up creates plenty of opportunities for action scenes but the movie falls short. The movie itself has a few interesting elements but typically the messy plot got in the way of the revenge plot. There are a few action scenes and a brief appearance by Jim Varney as a Vietnam vet arms dealer but this doesn't offer much other than that. The film was directed by Rick Avery and William Lustig (who was uncredited) and stars Jeff Speakman, Jim Varney and James Brolin. A family man and a mob witness hunt for a hit-man who has mistakenly kidnapped the family man's son. It’s just one more complication that makes the film oddly compelling.The Expert has a less than stellar reputation, largely based on fans of the film’s star looking for a Perfect Weapon, and being unprepared for a William Lustig picture. It was a brutal murder that sent deranged psychopath Martin Kagan to prison. I'm a die hard Speakman fan, so maybe I am a bit bias, but I love this movie.
